Arsenal have certainly improved this season under Unai Emery, however, there is still plenty of work left for the manager to do at the Emirates Stadium.
The defence is clearly an area of concern for the Gunners and the Spaniard will need to address the issue in the transfer window by looking to make some additions. However, it appears one of his potential targets may not be too keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.
What’s the News?
Nicolas Tagliafico’s agent, who The Metro somehow forget to name, is thought to have handed Arsenal a blow in their pursuit for the Ajax defender.
“Inter Milan and Italian football are always attractive destinations for Argentine players,’ they said. “Let’s not forget, like it was once said, that we’re Italians who speak Spanish. Everything’s very familiar. It’s like being at home. Tagliafico has always been our priority for Italy, but in the most appropriate moment we will find the right place. We will see what happens.”
Tagliafico is believed to want to try a new challenge next season, however, it appears that may be in Italy rather than England now.
The £22.5million-rated star (Transfermarkt) has been exceptional for Ajax during his time in Amsterdam and he is definitely the type of player Arsenal could certainly benefit from having in their side.
The Argentina international would seriously upgrade the left-hand side of Emery’s side, as the 26-year-old has a nice blend of attacking and defensive ability to offer. He could essentially replace both Nacho Monreal and Sead Kolasinac with his style of play.
However, as his agent mentions, the culture of Italian football may suit the South American more than that in England, as Tagliafico may feel more at home, which could help him to settle in a little quicker.
But, as we have seen on a number of occasions, the comments the agent has made does not necessarily mean a deal is dead in the water and anything could still happen in the upcoming transfer window.
Arsenal fans, what do you make of Tagliafico’s agent’s comments? Do you think they have effectively ended the club’s chances of signing him in the summer? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
