Speculation has been rife in the Football Transfer Tavern today after Simon Jones from Mail Online arrives to suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has offered £2.5 million in an attempt to sign French youngster Benjamin Mendy this summer.
The 18-year-old French Under-19 international is highly rated with his current club Le Havre and he was originally linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium back in 2011 before he signed his first professional contract with the French side.
Wenger has now gone back in for Mendy as he looks to shore up his defence but it is widely expected for the offer to be rejected with Le Havre seeking around £5 million for their talented youngster.
Despite his young age, Mendy has already established himself as a key member of yhe first team at Le Havre, with 37 appearances in all competitions last season.
The Gunners and Wenger could yet face competition from Premier League rivals Sunderland and Cardiff City while Juventus and Lyon are also thought to be looking closely at the teenage left back.
Will Arsenal increase their bid for the French starlet this summer? Rate this rumour below.
