Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is reportedly open to a move away from the club this season, with the MLS one of the destinations he would consider.
According to a report from Bleacher Report, the former Germany international is considering his options with the Gunners but will not move to hand in a transfer request as things stand.
Ozil has been frozen out by manager Unai Emery, much to the displeasure of a large number of Arsenal fans, who have continued to see their team struggle and saw them lose 1-0 at Sheffield United in mid-week.
Nicolas Pepe was brought in during the summer but has struggled in the main, although he did bag twice in the Europa League on Thursday.
The likes of Dani Ceballos have also moved ahead of Ozil, who has had to sit and wait in the wings for much of Emery’s tenure.
Ozil’s omission from the team is a big surprise given the form he has showed in the last few seasons for Arsenal in being one of their chief creators. Indeed, back in the 2015/16 season, he registered a staggering 19 Premier League assists on his own.
However, Emery has, for whatever reason, decided not to play Ozil as much as some would like. He’s made only one Premier League appearance this term, while last season he appeared in just half of the games as a starter.
It’s such a strange one with Arsenal and Ozil that it almost leaves you scratching your head in wonder.
At a time when they need creativity and players who can lay chances on for the likes of Aubameyang, Ozil is still being left out in the cold.
At 31, it would be a shame to see him move to the MLS as he still has so much to give. However, after playing at top clubs in Germany, Spain and now, England, he might just fancy an easier life out in the States.
