Arsenal fans playing darts will be wondering who their next captain may be, after a rumour from Spanish publication Fichajes, indicates that Mikel Arteta will not receive a contract extension at the Emirates, and has began negotiations regarding a move to West Ham United.
Manager Slaven Bilic is seemingly determined to strengthen the players available at his disposal within his squad, with the Spaniard supposedly emerging as a viable transfer target.
The 33-year old has failed to start a single Premier League fixture this term, having only managed seven substitute appearances, while his current Arsenal deal is due to expire at the end of the current season and it is believed that the Gunners will not offer him a new contract.
Whilst West Ham are willing to wait until the end of the campaign, when they will be able to acquire the Arsenal skipper for free.
However, reports suggest that they are also talking to Arsenal about the possibility of signing him this month as they look to push on from sixth place in the Premier League.
Our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that Arteta is still capable of playing at a top level for another year and that he would be a great signing for West Ham, especially on a free, with the Spaniard holding a wealth of experience and leadership qualities.
