Arsenal fans are looking elated here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by Metro that the club could well be finally set to offload misfit striker Marouane Chamakh for good this summer.
The Moroccan international forward has become the very definition of a flop and has been someone Arsene Wenger has tried time and time again to give a chance to, only to see the player fail.
Now it seems that Valencia based side Levante are willing to actually pay for the player – £1 million – and not only that, but make him their highest paid player to boot. While Arsene Wenger and the Arsenal board will be keen to snap Levante’s hand off to get rid of the striker, how keen Chamakh himself will be to play for the Spanish side remains to be seen.
Metro even claim that despite being told he would face a season on the bench or in the youth side at best, the 29-year-old is considering sitting on his mega deal for the final year of his contract then making a move for free and netting a rather impressive signing on fee for whatever club is foolish enough to take him.
Given he only made 11 appearances last term, we can’t imagine that list being too long.
