Arsenal missed out on Chelsea star after being too slow in the market

Chelsea v Swansea City - Barclays Premier LeagueArsenal fans flood the Football Transfer Tavern with jealousy after hearing that their club were looking to sign the Premier League’s top scorer but were pipped to his signature, after their rivals struck an early deal.

According to the Daily Star, Arsene Wenger has admitted that he was keen to sign Chelsea’s hitman, Diego Costa, but missed out on him after Chelsea quickly snapped him up from beneath their noses.

To relieve some of their frustration, fans were left delighted in the Tavern after seeing Danny Welbeck score a hat trick in the Champions league against Galatasaray.

Despite this stand out performance by Welbeck, Arsenal fans are still annoyed, as it is not the first time they have had the chance to sign a world class player and failed in doing so, with punters suggesting, if they captured the Spanish international they could be title challengers.

When asked if he wanted to bring in the forward, Wenger said: “Yes, but that was a deal that was struck early.”

He was then full of praise and went on to say: “He has all the aspects of a striker that I like. He is focussed, always determined and ready for a fight.

“He has players like Cesc (Fabregas) who can always find him. He is a very efficient player, the timing of his runs and killing determination. You feel this guy is a killer and he has that in him.”
