Arsenal supporters are enjoying their weekend off without a game by relaxing in the Football Transfer Tavern when Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson arrives to explain that the Gunners are interested in signing highly-rated Saint Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Sanderson tells fans sat at the bar that Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi watched the French side’s 2-2 draw against Rennes at the weekend as the Gabon international netted his 16th goal of the season and was thoroughly impressive.
The striker has been given the nickname ‘the African Neymar’ and is hugely rated in France although all Arsenal fans know that this doesn’t mean they are certain to be a success in the Premier League after their recent acquisitions.
Chelsea, Newcastle and Tottenham are also thought to be keeping tabs on the forward with a view to a possible summer transfer but Arsenal are stepping up the race by sending chief scout Steve Rowley to France in the next few weeks. The Magpies actually put a bid in for the 23-year-old in January which was rejected and could be prepared to go back in again but with the Ligue 1 club asking for around £15 million, he may yet remain in France for the near future.
