Arsenal must break wage record to land German international

khedira.jpgArsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are shocked at the figures being put out there by the Daily Mail, when reporting the proposed transfer of Sami Khedira from Real Madrid.

The midfielder was one of the stars of the show during Germany’s stunning 7-1 World Cup semi-final humiliation of Brazil on Tuesday night.

And reports suggest he is available for £24 million this summer, after falling down the pecking order last season at Real Madrid.

But if the Gunners want to lure him to the Emirates Stadium, they have been told they will have to match his staggering £150,000-a-week wages, and make him the club’s highest paid player in the process.

Mesut Ozil is currently the clubs highest earner on £140,000-a-week, but a move for Khedira would see him eclipse his international team-mate.

Wenger is keen to strengthen his midfield this summer, and has been keeping tabs on Khedira, and his international team-mate Lars Bender.

Leverkusen, however, are reluctant to sell 25-year-old Bender, having only recently tied him to a new contract.

Wenger has also been tracking Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, and is expected to complete the £30 million capture of Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez shortly.

Arsenal fans. Is Khedira really worth £150k-a-week in wages? Does Lars Bender represent a better alternative? Let us know your thoughts below.
