After a tough first two games to the season, Arsenal have recovered with wins over West Ham and most recently Cardiff City.

Under Unai Emery, Arsenal could not have been given a tougher start to the season as the Gunners had to face Manchester City and Chelsea. Although they lost, Arsenal have shown signs of progress under the Spaniard.

Arsenal didn't splash the cash over the summer like Man City, the club brought in a heavy amount over the summer, Arsenal did bring in five new players including former Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos. Following the injury to Laurent Koscielny last year, Arsenal needed to bring in a new defender to take his spot in the Arsenal side alongside Shkodran Mustafi.

According to the Frenchman's agent, Stephane Courbis, the defender was considering the possibility of moving back to France or even going to China.

The Breakdown

Over the last few two years, Koscielny's performances have dropped but overall, the French international has been a superb player for the club during his time in north London. With his injury, age and his agent's revelations, Arsenal now need to really consider how they're going to form their defence in the future.

Sokratis is a stop gap while his current defensive partner, Shkodran Mustafi just hasn't improved. That leaves Arsenal with Rob Holding, Konstantinos Mavropanos and the on-loan Calum Chambers as their future defensive options.

Arsenal need to accelerate their thinking on what they're going to do in the future or risk being left in the lurch.
