Newcastle United fans are looking up over their pints after the claim from Metro who note that Yohan Cabaye’s transfer saga will not impact on the club in a negative way.
The Magpies manager has not had the easiest of starts to the season and the club looked worse than many would have predicted in the opening game against Manchester City.
Not only that, but Pardew has had to deal with the arrival of transfer wizard himself Joe Kinnear who would have also been disappointed with the lack of arrivals on Tyneside this far.
The only real significant activity for Newcastle this summer, Loic Remy aside, has been the future of Yohan Cabaye and the potential move to Arsenal for the French international.
Cabaye has not been involved in the squad this season, amidst rumours of a strike, and with Arsene Wenger set to come in with another bid for the player, his future at St. James’ Park is increasingly in doubt.
Pardew was asked about the potential of a move for Cabaye and noted: “The answer isn’t as simple as a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’.
“The answer is he is either going to be sold and we are going to have to replace him in the window that we have left, or he’s going to stay.
“But I, as the manager, have to protect him and protect the football club, more importantly. The first thing on my agenda is the football club, trust me, and that will always come first while I am the manager here.
“The bottom line is with world-class players if they move on, it has to be world-class money.”
Will Arsenal splash ‘world-class money’ and as much as £20 million to land Cabaye or will Wenger penny pinch once more? Let us know your thoughts below.
