Arsenal fans are looking up from their beer and burger deal here in the Football Transfer Tavern and after the latest claim from Metro we can understand why.
The Gunners have bee linked with Robin van Persie on more than one occasion this season, and we did think that the Dutchman could well be on their way back to his former club.
Now however our punters look slightly confused at the claim that Arsene Wenger was never actually interested in re-signing the player after all.
That of course places the Manchester United forward in a little bit of an awkward situation given his relationship with his manager David Moyes and his team-mates, not to mention the decline in form of United.
There would be options abroad for the forward, and as our punters and landlord note alike, there could be a couple of clubs in the Premier League who may well put in a cheeky bid as well.
A return to Arsenal would be controversial for RVP, but it would also be a major coup for the club, given they are desperate for a top class forward.
United meanwhile are facing a couple of departures of their own – and another one might not go down too well!
Will van Persie stick or twist this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
