Arsenal offer reportedly falls short as Wenger looks seal midfielder agreement

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a real fan favourite amongst the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern…

The Englishman, signed as a teenager, has really come of age over the last 18 months or so, with Arsene Wenger’s tutoring and calculated methods of offering opportunities to young talents really paying dividends.

Indeed, the coming season looks set to be his best yet, especially after a stellar performance against Chelsea in the Community Shield, but it appears as though the Englishman’s Arsenal future is genuinely at risk at present.

According to the Daily Star, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been offered a new deal at Arsenal, but it has fallen short of his demands. He is said to want around £120,000-per-week, and clearly whatever has been put on the table is not up to those standards.

Arsenal, of course, have a pretty tight wage structure, and they rarely like to extend beyond that, so the Gunners’ brass may need to decide whether the winger is worth the investment.

Judging by his recent performances, he certainly is, though his demands are certainly steep.

Landlord’s Verdict

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is clearly a very good player, but £120,000-per-week is a lot of money, particularly if he isn’t going to be a regular going forward.

He has struggled to really find his place within the Arsenal first team over the last few years, typically filling in when required, but if he wants to earn that much, he undoubtedly needs to be a starter.

The Englishman could well earn that status this season, but if an agreement is not reached, he may not make it that long.

It’s a very important time in his career, and both the club and the player must make the right decision.
