It’s another day in the Football Transfer Tavern with another Manchester United player being linked with a switch to Arsenal in exchange for Thomas Vermaelen according to The Mirror.
The publication seems to think that in order for Arsene Wenger to allow the Belgian defender to move to Old Trafford he will ask for cash and Tom Cleverley in exchange.
As is immediatley pointed out, receiving the Spanish version of Xavi – or so Cleverley thinks – in return is something that has gone down like a lead balloon with the majority of Gunners fans in the tavern!
Our rather realistically-minded punters in the tavern think that Cleverley is not and will not be a top player in the future and Wenger should say thanks, but not thanks.
Louis van Gaal is set on overseeing a ruthless clear out when he finally takes the reigns this summer after the conclusion of the Netherlands’ World Cup campaign.
We cannot help but think that Cleverley – capped 13 times by England – simply has to be one of the first ones to get shoved towards the exit door.
Arsenal fans. Is this a better or worse deal than Nani plus cash? Should Wenger just tell United to get a reality check and move on? Let us know your thoughts below.
