Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken it upon himself to mentor many of the club’s youngsters, according to football.london.
It is being said players like Tyreece John-Jules, Matteo Guendouzi and Eddie Nketiah have all felt the warm embrace of the Gabon international.
Aubameyang has already started the season off well, scoring two goals in the first three Premier League games of the season.
Arsenal are gearing up for Sunday’s North London derby, a heated fixture which the Gunners won 4-2 last season.
Aubameyang’s impact on and off the pitch is quite noticeable. The 30-year-old is a prolific user of social media and from many of his posts you can see the father-like figure he has imposed on younger members of the squad (via Instagram). Players like Reiss Nelson have felt the embrace of the former Borussia Dortmund man on the pitch, commenting on how Aubameyang has made an impact with his goalscoring feats (via football.london).
However, Aubameyang’s impact is far bigger than his influence on the younger stars. Last season, the Gabonese striker scored over 30 goals in all competitions, as he alongside Alexandre Lacazette carried Arsenal’s attack. The next highest goalscorer across the Premier League and Europa League proved to be Henrikh Mkhitaryan, with just six goals. It begins to paint a picture of just how influential the striking duo, and Aubameyang especially, are for the club as a whole.
There has been multiple rumours over the course of the summer that the club plan on extending the contracts of the two forwards (via Daily Mail). With Aubameyang’s extraordinary goalscoring feats in his first 50 games in the top flight, Arsenal must ensure he stays at the club for as long as possible.
It wasn’t just the goal-scoring achievements of the star forward that makes him a key asset to Unai Emery. His confidence, as shown through his willingness to always go for goal, is also huge. The Arsenal man had the most shots of any player at Arsenal last season (2.6), and so far this season (3), with a gap of almost 1.3 between him and the next player (via WhoScored).
Aubameyang has lit up the Emirates Stadium since arriving from Germany. Many of the North London faithful will be hoping that long continues, especially with the club desperate to return to Champions League football.
