There are some intriguing reports arriving into the Football Transfer Tavern this evening as The Express report that Arsenal have a new striking target for the summer.
It is suggested that the Gunners are preparing to rival Newcastle United for Queens Park Rangers forward Loic Remy after beginning talks with his agent.
The French international is currently on loan with the North East club and the Magpies are desperate to keep hold of the 27-year-old when his loan deal expires at the end of the season.
However it seems that they will face strong competition from Arsene Wenger with today’s speculation indicating that the Gunners have outlined Remy, who has hit 11 goals for the Magpies, as the man to fire them to success in the future.
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has already admitted that his club could struggle to keep hold of the prolific forward, saying: “The plan was always that he would be on loan for the year and we had a deal with QPR that that would be the case.
“We would like to do it permanently but there is a long way until that happens.
“It is not quite as simple as [meeting his release clause] as the player and his agents need to make sure it is right for the player and we have to honour that.”
The striker’s parent club, QPR, are unlikely to keep him even if they win promotion back to the Premier League and that could see him made available at around £9 million in the summer which punters here in the tavern think is a snip for a proven Premier League forward.
