We love a big transfer story in the Football Transfer Tavern and this morning Mail Online correspondent Sami Mokbel has well and truly delivered by declaring that Arsenal are considering a move for out of favour Barcelona striker David Villa.
Mokbel reports that Arsene Wenger has been preparing a January swoop for the the Barcelona striker known as ‘The Kid’.
Sources in Spain have recently indicated that Villa could leave the Camp Nou and the Gunners would certainly have an interest in signing the striker on loan until the end of the season. Villa is unfortunate to have been frozen out at Barca after returning from injury and there is little doubt he still remains one of the finest strikers in the world – one that would feel right at home in the Premier League.
Mokbel also reports that Wojciech Szczesny’s future as first choice keeper at the Emirates is becoming all the more uncertain as he suggests that the Gunners could make a move for Sunderland’s impressive Belgian stopper Simon Mignolet in January.
However, it is the possible capture of Villa that has brought festive cheer to the tavern for Gunners fans.
