We reckon Arsenal’s transfer business may finally be hotting up here in the Football Transfer Tavern, with Simon Jones of the Daily Mail suggesting that the Gunners may soon be recruiting a top French midfielder, as well as an up and coming star from Scotland.
Lyon have reportedly offered Arsenal their midfielder Yoann Gourcuff on loan, with the French club looking to offload his £80,000-a-week wages.
The 26-year-old is highly rated in France although he has struggled for form with Lyon this season. He usually operates as an attacking midfielder and is also capable of playing just off the striker.
He may not be the only midfielder on his way to the Emirates either, with the same report suggesting a bid for Celtic’s Victor Wanyama may be in the pipeline.
The 21-year-old has been Celtic’s outstanding player this season, and came to everyone’s attention during the clubs spectacular Champions League group stage campaign, which of course resulted in qualification and a memorable home victory over Barcelona at Celtic Park.
Wenger is being pressured to act quickly in the transfer market following a series of poor results this season, which has seen the club fall well off the pace in the title race.
With money to spend, the Arsenal fans want to see proof they are not simply viewed as a selling club.
