Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern admitted earlier this week to our barmaid that they’ve all but given up hope of signing a new striker- but they’ve received a massive boost here.
Following Real Madrid’s transfer ban, which means they won’t be able to exercise a clause and bring Alvaro Morata back to the Spanish capital from Juventus, The Sun states Arsenal are considering a swoop for the Spaniard.
Arsenal are long-term admirers of the 23-year-old, who scored in last season’s Champions League final, but a move seemed almost impossible to complete as Real Madrid had a buy-back clause inserted in the player’s contract.
However, with Real Madrid now facing two windows where they cannot register any new players, Arsenal have been given hope of landing an exciting deal.
The Gunners currently have Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck as their options in attack but the latter is yet to feature this season, whilst questions have been asked about the capabilities of the trio when it comes to title success.
Our landlord believes Morata may not be a significant upgrade on Giroud right now but he backs the Spaniard to be a star, having plenty of years ahead of him.
Arsenal fans, would Morata be a better option than Giroud? Let us know in the comments below!
