Arsenal prepare swoop for high-profile Coquelin replacement

Lars BenderArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were close to tears at the weekend when Francis Coquelin was forced off and the waterworks almost started again when they heard he’d be out for three months. Fortunately, there is some positive news.

Italian outlet CalcioMercato states that Arsene Wenger will lodge a bid for a long-term target in January, as he aims to bring Lars Bender to North London from Bayer Leverkusen.

Coquelin’s long-term absence has left a huge void in Arsenal’s midfield that the Gunners intend to fill, with an addition that quickly fixes the issue whilst also adding long-term competitiveness to their squad.

The arrival of 26-year-old German international Bender would be a great addition, as he’d quickly settle into the side due to his experience and the aid of compatriots within the squad; that include Per Mertesacker and Mesut Ozil.

His arrival could prove costly though, as the Bundesliga side value him very highly, but Arsenal have funds available having spent just over £10m in the summer; their only senior addition being the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea.

Arsenal fans at the bar are now on the verge of tears of joy, believing this signing would go a long way in their quest to secure the Premier League title.
