It’s been unusually quiet in the Football Transfer Tavern today, as some weary looking punters try to recover from yesterday’s late night transfer marathon.
Arsenal supporters are sat reflecting on a rather disappointing day as the Gunners missed out on long-term attacking midfield target Julian Draxler after the Premier League club couldn’t agree a fee with Schalke for the highly-rated 20-year-old.
Now more reports have arrived in the tavern from The Express who report that the Gunners also missed out on Southampton star Morgan Schneiderlin yesterday after they made a late approach for the midfielder.
The 24-year-old has been in fine form for Mauricio Pochettino’s team this term, and that has seen intense speculation about his future with Arsene Wenger reportedly viewing him as a suitable addition to his injury-hit midfield.
However the Saints had no desire to see the Frenchman leaving yesterday as they looked to build on their best start to a top-flight campaign in their history.
Instead the only arrival at the Emirates Stadium on deadline day was experienced Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom, who joined the club on a six-month loan deal from Spartak Moscow.
Although Wenger’s interest in Schneiderlin is something to keep an eye on in the future, with a possible summer move on the cards.
