We have a debut appearance in the Football Transfer Tavern and it’s for The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe and what a way to make your arrival.
Chris has entered the bar with the news that Arsenal are ready to bid £40 million for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez.
A £40 million bid, as one of the punters has just told me, would activate the Liverpool striker’s release fee clause.
However, in a rather surprising scenario, Chris believes this just means that the Anfield based club only have to inform their player of the bid (a few sceptical looks around the bar at this news).
There were suggestions this week that Arsenal were only readying a £35 million bid but Chris has another revelation for us and that is that Arsenal’s original £30 million bid was in fact worth £35 million, depending on Suarez’s number of appearances and goals, next season.
Wenger knows that if he genuinely wants the Uruguayan international that he will have to move quick, as reports build that Spanish giants Real Madrid are keen on securing Suarez’s services. Many customers here believe the Bernabeu will prove a more appealing option for the former Ajax man.
Anyway, got to go as the Liverpool fans at the bar look in major need of a refill, as the realisation of what no Champions League football means for their club, sinks in.
Arsenal are linked with Suarez seemingly everyday but could this transfer really come off? Let us know your thoughts below.
