Reports about Pepe Reina’s future at Liverpool have been widespread in the Football Transfer Tavern this week after rumours emerged that Arsenal are ready to launch a bid to sign the goalkeeper in January.
Mirror Football journalist John Cross has made clear that the Spanish star is ready to leave Anfield after seven years with the club and Arsene Wenger is preparing to bring the 30-year-old to the Emirates Stadium.
Wenger appears to have lost faith in current number one Wojciech Szczesny and he wants to bring in extra established competition for the Polish international.
Reina is reportedly on £110,000k-a-week wages which could put Wenger off although it has been suggested that the shot-stopper would be prepared to take a pay cut to ensure any deal goes through.
Another option for the Gunners is Stoke City keeper Asmir Begovic who has impressed for the Potters this season and his wage demands will far more affordable for the North London side.
Arsenal’s board are set to give Wenger a large transfer budget in the upcoming transfer window in an attempt to guarantee that the club secures a Champions League place for next season.
