Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern praying for big recruits this summer may well have had those prayers answered, with reports of progress in a significant deal.
The Daily Mail states Arsenal are ready to launch an enquiry to Real Madrid about the availability of Karim Benzema, should Los Blancos sign one of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Robert Lewandowski in the summer.
Real Madrid have endured a mixed affair this season, although a sensational turn of events recently has put them back in the La Liga title race, and the squad is expected to be shaken up this season, with a quality striker on Zinedine Zidane’s wish-list.
If Zidane and Real Madrid are successful in their pursuit of either of the Bundesliga’s leading scorers, Benzema could find himself surplus to requirements but his own availability hinders on the outcome of a judicial investigation where the French international has been accused of blackmail.
The 28-year-old striker was heavily linked to Arsenal last summer and fans are desperate for a big-name to fill the vacant number nine jersey, which hasn’t had a quality holder for many years.
