Arsenal ‘ready to take action’ on move for £27m-rated ace as January plans come into view – report

According to the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, their side simply cannot afford to let Alexis Sanchez leave unless a player of equal quality is brought in to replace him. Fortunately for them, then, according to RMC Sport – their views are shared by the Arsenal board.

RMC Sport are reporting that, whilst Alexis Sanchez is still facing the exit door at the Emirates, the Gunners do have a plan. They’re apparently ready to return for Monaco winger Thomas Lemar, with the publication noting that the club are ‘ready to take action’ – suggesting that a move could be forthcoming for the Gunners.

Sanchez’s departure has become quite the spectacle, and it’s looking set to go down as the saga of the window, especially given that an exit is now looking likely.

Replacing him won’t be easy, but Lemar would be a great fit. The Frenchman has emerged as one of Europe’s best attacking midfielders in recent years, offering fantastic pace and direct running – much like Sanchez brings to the fold at Arsenal.

It won’t be easy to land Lemar, though. Transfer Markt rate his market value around the £27 million mark, but Monaco are said to be demanding a whopping €70 million (£61.9 million) – owing to their desire to hold onto the Frenchman.

For Arsenal, then, this deal will require a rather hefty investment, but it’s one that makes sense.

Landlord’s Verdict

If Sanchez is to be sold, Arsenal not only need to bring in a player of equal quality, but they also need to bring in a player that carries a similar level of star power. They can’t be seen to be letting their aspirations reduce.

Lemar certainly fits that bill, and at 21-years-old, he could become the poster boy for Arsenal for the best part of a decade if they bring him in.

This move is far from guaranteed, though, and so Arsenal fans will no doubt still be concerned.
