The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are breathing a sigh of relief as they tuck into their lasagne from the pub grub menu, as it appears Arsene Wenger has finally learnt his lesson.
The Daily Mirror state the Arsenal boss is ready to move for Southampton’s Victor Wanyama this summer, with the Gunners boss keen to add a strong midfielder to provide competition for Francis Coquelin in the anchor role in the Arsenal midfielder.
Kenyan international Wanyama has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent years, with interest stemming back to his days north of the border with Celtic, and Southampton’s struggles this term have increased the likelihood of the midfielder’s exit.
Whilst Arsenal may face competition from rival clubs in England, and would have to pay a premium price to persuade Southampton into a sale, Wenger is keen to complete a deal with three midfielders set to leave this summer.
Captain Mikel Arteta, former French international Mathieu Flamini and long-serving Tomas Rosicky are all likely to leave upon the expiration of their contracts this summer, although the former could be handed a coaching role with the club.
Our landlord believes Wanyama is the sort of signing that Arsenal have been crying out for in recent years and he’s glad Wenger finally has his priorities straightened out.
Arsenal fans, could Wanyama’s signature bolster your competitiveness in Europe? Let us know in the comments!
