It may be one of the most testing times in his Arsenal career and things are set to get worse for Arsene Wenger with the blow that January transfer window target Adrian Lopez is set to be offered a new deal at Atletico Madrid.
Whilst this may come as a shock to the Football Transfer Tavern regulars, with our pals from the Daily Mail and Mirror reporting that Adrian could be on his way to North London, talkSPORT reports that Atleti are determined to keep hold of the striker just in case fellow star forward Radamel Falcao leaves in the near future.
Of course Falcao is one of the hottest properties in world football and there have been numerous debates around the darts board over who exactly will land the Colombian, but with parent club Atleti flying high in La Liga this season, the club are more determined than ever on possessing different options up top – and versatile Lopez who netted 19 times last term fits the bill.
Wenger may try to capitalise on the £14.4 million buy-out clause for Lopez before he puts pen to paper on a new contract. However, Wenger may have to break the bank in order to match the wages Atleti are now rumoured to be offering – something we all know Wenger refuses to do.
