Arsenal receive boost as key man returns to training (not Bellerin)

The Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are delighted with this…

It has, undoubtedly, been one of the best weeks of the season for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern.

It began with an astonishing victory in a London derby clash against West Ham, and was improved further by news that Hector Bellerin had returned to training ahead of schedule.

Things at the Emirates are look pretty rosy, then, and it would appear as though things have gotten even better.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker is back in training – after missing the start of the season through injury picked up during the Gunners’ pre-season preparation.

This has come as a huge relief to the Gunners in the Tavern, and whilst they recognise that Mertesacker likely wouldn’t be a starter anymore – they know that Wenger simply cannot rely on Koscielny and Mustafi to remain fit all season.

Mertesacker has proven to be a vital member of Arsene Wenger’s first team squad since his arrival, having made close to 150 league appearances since his arrival in 2011.

Our landlord thinks that his leadership and experience will be vital as Arsene Wenger tries to guide his side back to the top of the Premier League.
