The Daily Mirror have a rather interesting claim for Arsenal fans after they noted that the club have seen a mega bid for Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender turned down.
Arsene Wenger is known to be keen on the German international and has even put forward a bid of £19.7 million, yet has seen this rejected by Leverkusen who have of course seen Chelsea take Andre Schurrle and also Real Madrid exercise their buy back option for Dani Carvajal already this summer, meaning that they are determined not to let another first team player depart the Bay Arena anytime soon.
Now it seems that Arsene Wenger could well have to break his transfer record for the 24-year-old German and could well be held to ransom by a very determined Bayer side.
Wenger is of course chasing an host of targets with his £70 million kitty this summer and is hoping to tie up the signings of Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain and QPR’s Julio Cesar sometime soon. As for Bender, he has impressed no end during his time in the Bundesliga and has clocked up 150 appearances for Bayer since joining the club from 1860 Munich in 2009.
Will Arsenal return for Lars Bender’s signature this summer? Is he the man the Gunners need? Let us know your thoughts below.
