Shock is not the word here in the Football Transfer Tavern at the latest claim from the Daily Star who think that Arsenal could well be set to rejoin the race for Wayne Rooney.
The Arsenal manager has become increasingly worried over the stance Liverpool are taking regarding star man Luis Suarez and despite publicly claiming the club will still land the forward this summer, Wenger knows that a plan B is needed.
This has led him to Wayne Rooney, who is in a similar stand off situation with Manchester United who as we all know are refusing to sell to Premier League title rivals Chelsea.
Now it seems that Arsenal are set to offer Rooney a back up option with another bid for the English international being considered by Gunners manager Wenger.
It has become increasingly obvious that Liverpool will do everything in their power to try and keep Suarez at Anfield, even if it means allowing him to rot in the reserves and Wenger has eyed Rooney as the man to make his summer and become his new marquee signing.
Rooney is known to prefer a move to Stamford Bridge to link up with Jose Mourinho and his best friend in football, Ashley Cole, yet given the fact that Chelsea would be United’s direct rivals for the big trophies, it is understandable that David Moyes and the board do not want to face the backlash should Rooney move to the Blues and fire them to the title.
Firing Arsenal to fourth place however would not be such an issue.
