Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern now believe there is genuine hope that this could be the season they become realistic title challengers.
Gunners supporters situated in the bar are all in good spirits as they look forward to tonight’s visit of Napoli in what promises to be a mouthwatering Champions League clash.
Now the latest reports from the Daily Star add to their collective cheer as the publication suggests that Arsenal remain favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen star Lars Bender.
The news comes despite the Bundesliga club being desperate to keep hold of the German international.
Bender has emerged as a key transfer target for Arsene Wenger in recent times, but the French boss may face competition from new Manchester United manager David Moyes who is under pressure to strengthen and also Bavarian giants Bayern Munich.
The Gunners hope to add the box-to-box player to their ranks and have even reportedly seen a £18.5 million bid rejected in the past but could now be ready to move again for the 24-year-old German ace.
However despite the Premier League interest, Bayer are keen to keep hold of Bender with general manager Michael Reschke insisting the Bundesliga club have no plans to sell their star midfielder.
“We have no intention to sell Lars,” Reschke told Kicker when asked about Bender, who has a contract with the Bundesliga club until 2017 but could be available for around £20 million.
Do Arsenal need to splash a large fee on Bender or is their midfield already complete? Let us know your thoughts below.
