A few of the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern had forgotten that Wojciech Szczesny was still an Arsenal player…
The goalkeeper has spent much of his recent career in Italy with Roma, with the 27-year-old impressing. Though originally a regular at the Emirates, poor form combined with the arrival of Petr Cech forced him out the door – albeit temporarily – though it seems as though a permanent move could be coming this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are reportedly set to seal a deal to take the goalkeeper to Juventus this summer, with the Italian outfit said to be envisioning that the Polish international will eventually take over from Gianluigi Buffon. With the player himself reportedly ready to make the move, it doesn’t look like much will stop the deal from going through.
It would be a disappointing end to the Polish goalkeeper’s stint in London, given that he was touted as a star during his early years. He impressed early on in his career, though when Petr Cech arrived at the club, his time in Red appeared close to over. That being said, he has really flourished in Italy – and given that Cech has struggled at points over the last year – our landlord thinks that he certainly deserves a chance back in the Premier League. It doesn’t look he will be getting it, though.
He made 38 appearances in Serie A last season for Roma.
It is looking set to be a summer of change at the Emirates this summer, with Arsene Wenger faced with the tough task of trying to rebuild a faltering side. Given that the Gunners won’t have Champions League football to contend with next season, the fans in the Transfer Tavern are demanding a title challenge.
