The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are very concerned ahead of next season…
Whilst the signing of Alexandre Lacazette has improved the mood of the punters in the pub, there is still a lot of fear surrounding the future of Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean still has yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates, leaving many fearful that he could complete a move away this summer.
However, according to John Cross of the Mirror, that is far from a done deal. Cross writes that Arsenal are ‘confident’ that Sanchez will be an Arsenal player next season, and with sides baulking at his wage demands alongside his desire to stay in London – things are beginning to look slightly better for the Gunners.
Of course, Sanchez’s retention would come as a huge boost for Arsenal, as he has arguably been their most important player over the last few years. Consistent in the attack, the Chilean has all too often stepped up when his teammates have struggled – and so to lose him would come as a crushing blow.
That being said, until a deal is done to secure his future, an air of anxiety will continue to cloud the judgement of the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern, and so it is up to Arsene Wenger to ensure that he stays. A few big signings may do the trick, and a strong start to the 2017/18 season will certainly make things easier.
Alexis Sanchez, who is rated at £55.25m by Transfer Markt, is likely to have the final say, though, and unless things change, our landlord isn’t convinced.
