The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern think that Calum Chambers could be the odd man out at the Emirates this summer…
Since moving to Arsenal, he has looked good, but rarely has he been a regular member of the first team – with other players like Laurent Koscielny often preferred in his place.
Now, it appears as though his time at the Emirates is coming to an end, with the Mirror reporting that the Gunners are in talks with Crystal Palace over the permanent transfer of Chambers. It is said that Arsenal rate him at £20 million.
This, of course, comes off of the back of a loan spell with Middlesbrough, with the defender becoming a regular last season as the side struggled in the English top flight.
In truth, the emergence of Rob Holding last season could well have been the final nail in the coffin for Chambers, with his English compatriot really impressing for the Gunners last season.
With the likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in the side, there is only really room for one young defender with potential – and given Holding’s fine performances last season, it is hard to argue that the former Bolton man has earned the right to hold the role.
