Arsenal reportedly ready to make big move for 21-year-old, but there’s bad news for Wenger

It has been a good summer so far for the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern…

For a change, the Arsenal brass has not been afraid to spend, with a big move for Alexandre Lacazette providing a lot of excitement in the pub.

There is a genuine hope, though, that the spending isn’t finished. Arsenal are still in a pretty bad spot, having suffered through a very poor campaign last term, and the gap between them and the likes of Man City and Chelsea is evidently clear.

A few more signings certainly wouldn’t go amiss, but it doesn’t appear as though a move for Marco Asensio is very likely – at least according to Don Balon.

Don Balon reports that Arsenal are, surprisingly, ready pay a whopping €80 million (£72 million) to reach the buy-out clause of Asensio, with Arsene Wenger clearly desperate to bring in another marquee signing this summer. However, a move looks incredibly unlikely, as it is noted that the player has no intention of leaving Los Blancos this summer – instead preferring to stay and fight for his place under Zidane.

The prospect of him moving to the Emirates was certainly exciting for the Arsenal fans in the pub, though they recognised how unlikely it was to happen.

Asensio has really impressed so far this season, bagging a couple of very impressive goals for his side against Barcelona, opening the door for a very good season for the Spaniard.

Landlord’s Verdict

Asensio is one of Europe’s most talented youngsters, and he certainly would have done a job at the Emirates.

However, it’s always going to be tough to tempt a player away from Real Madrid – particularly when they are on the verge of making it into the first team.

This news does display a willingness to spend, though, and so Arsenal could look to invest over the next two weeks.
