The resident Arsenal supporting punters here in the Football Transfer Tavern are interested in the news filtering in from the Daily Mail, with the outlet claiming that the Gunners have sent representatives to watch Standard Liege keeper Guillaume Hubert in action.
The 22-year-old is certainly a commanding presence in between the sticks, standing at a lofty 6ft 6, and he’s a player that Wenger has seemingly earmarked as a potential replacement for the ageing Petr Cech.
Our resident Gooners by the jukebox here in the Tavern think that it makes sense for the club to move for a new goalkeeper soon, as it is evident that Petr Cech nor David Ospina are long-term solutions.
Hubert is a Belgium under-21 international and looks set to have a bright future on the international scene, and a potential move to Arsenal would undoubtedly raise his stock in world football.
Our landlord has seen the young keeper in action numerous times and think he has all the attributes to become a success in English football, though is wary of the monumental pressure placed on keepers at top clubs in England, just look at a certain Loris Karius!
Not seen much of the keeper before? Check out a video of the player that our landlord found on Youtube!
