“Oh for crying out loud!”; that was the first response shouted out when John Cross, of the Daily Mirror, popped into the Football Transfer Tavern with the news that Arsenal have revived their interest in Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.
John pulls up a bar stool and explains the whole situation. Basically Thomas Vermaelen and Nacho Monreal will miss the start of the season and therefore Arsene Wenger has been forced back into the transfer market.
Wenger sent scouts, on Thursday, to watch the Wales international when he played in the Europa League for the Swans and this definitely suggests the Arsenal manager may make a move for Williams, despite originally being put off by Swansea’s valuation of £10 million.
Cross is about to go on when a Arsenal fan stands up, goes over to the exit door, turns round, looks at all the punters and, while holding back the tears, says: “Higuain he was ours. So was Jovetic. We had Suarez too. Instead I’m left with a Williams. Ashley flaming Williams.”
Well, that has put a dampener on proceedings and it looks like several punters are having an early night but a Swansea fan cannot resist a little ‘dig’ on his way out and announces to every passing customer that Chico Flores is the better defender.
Guess I better lock up. Hope that Arsenal fan is alright.
