Gunners fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern had effectively assumed that they were set to land a crucial signing before the start of the season. However, news has made it’s way to the bar that has made them very nervous indeed.
According to reports from Spanish newspaper, AS Chelsea have waded in on the chase for Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi and have gone one step further than the Gunners in their pursuit.
The report claims that The Blues have tabled a €30m offer for the German international, which has been rejected by the Spanish outfit, however Arsenal are yet to turn their interest into a formal bid.
As well as this, Italian giants AC Milan are said to be in the chase to sign the World Cup winner, and are using super-agent, Jorge Mendes as an intermediary.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for a defender in the light of Per Mertersacker’s injury which looks like it could keep him out until around December.
