Francis Coquelin remains Arsenal’s only senior defensive midfielder in the squad, with both Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini suffering with form and injury issues, but Arsene Wenger appears to be rectifying this issue in the New Year.
The Evening Times state Arsenal have sent scouts to watch Celtic prodigy Nir Bitton ahead of a potential swoop. Wenger’s officials watched the Israeli midfielder in action during the Scottish champions Europa League tie against Fenerbahce and were impressed by what they saw.
The Gunners could face problems as it’s suggest Celtic won’t want to lose the 23-year-old before the end of the season, having stuck by the youngster through his necessary time with the Israeli military.
Our Arsenal regulars believe Celtic would be persuaded into a deal for the right price though and believe Bitton presents a nice, cheaper alternative to the likes of William Carvalho and Gregorz Krychowiak.
Arsenal fans, would Nir Bittom solve your midfield issues? Let us know in the comments below!
