Arsenal are reportedly keen on bolstering their wide midfield options, and have been linked with a 10 million euro move for Lille star Dimitri Payet. The French international is apparently keenly admired by Arsene Wenger, and a move to the Gunners would surely be a great proposition both for the player, and the club.
Payet, who joined Lille from St Etienne in 2011, put in a great series of performances for the former Ligue 1 champions last season, contributing five goals, and three assists for the club as they claimed third spot in the league for themselves. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of Arsenal, and he would prove to be a fantastic piece of business for the Gunners.
Arsenal may have some quality wingers already within their team, but their is always room for improvement. The situation regarding Theo Walcott’s contract, along with his unconvincing form on a regular basis, means Wenger may be looking at a direct replacement for the Englishman. At just 10 million euros, Payet would a great signing at a nifty price. With Walcott reported to be demanding over £80,000 a week to sign a new contract, it may be in Arsenals best interests, to sell him in the January transfer window, and use the funds on Payet, who will surely command far less wages than Walcott’s apparent demands.
The signing of Payet would also allow English sensation Chamberlain to move further into the middle of the pitch. He has already demonstrated several times, both for Arsenal and England, that he can operate flawlessly just behind the strikers, using his incredible pace and keen eye for a killer pass to unlock defences. With Walcott out of the picture, and Payet taking his spot, Chamberlain would be free to operate as the play-maker that would make the Gunners almost unstoppable, and with Carzorla on the other side of the pitch, every defence would fear going up against Arsenal.
