Arsenal set for £80m deadline day swoop

Ozil and Di MariaArsenal supporters look quite relieved with the various news reports in the Football Transfer Tavern this morning that Arsene Wenger looks set for an extremely busy day in the transfer market.

The Gunners are ready to spend the majority of his £80 million reported budget.

As we have already reported in the tavern,  Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil is poised to sign for the Gunners in a club record deal worth around £42.5 million following the arrival of Gareth Bale in Spain.

The Telegraph now suggest that Ozil’s team-mate Angel Di Maria, who has recently stated that he wants to stay in Madrid, could also be the subject of final bid from the Emirates Stadium while Karim Benzema is likely to turn down any approaches from the Gunners to remain at the Bernabeu.

Wenger hasn’t just targeted the fallout from Bale’s arrival in Madrid as he searches for further additions to his team on deadline day.

Today’s Telegraph suggests that the Gunners may also move for Palermo striker Abel Hernandez and Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler in a £35 million deal after the 19-year-old admitted that it would be a transfer that interested him.

While Newcastle United’s Yohan Cabaye remains a firm target at around £15 million and is a player that Wenger could bid for again today and Chelsea’s striker Demba Ba could possibly emerge as a loan option should any of the potential transfers fall through, according to MirrorFootball

The Gunners have also been offered Palermo and Italian goalkeeper Emiliano Viviano, but a new keeper has been put on the back burner with the form of Wojciech Szczesny impressing. It seems unlikely that Arsenal will strengthened their defensive options following the recruitment of Mathieu Flamini, who can play at full back and therefore allow Bacary Sagna to feature at centre back.

The long serving French boss yesterday, said: “It’s a little bit a domino game and maybe something will happen in the last 24 hours, maybe not, it’s very difficult to predict,”

All we know is that come 11 pm tonight when the window slams shut Arsenal fans can almost certainly expect some new arrivals. It could be a rather exciting day in the Football Transfer Tavern and you can follow all the latest action here as deadline day hots up at the Emirates Stadium.

Who would you like Wenger to land today? Should Wenger has spent his money earlier in the window? Let us know your thoughts below.
