There are raised eyebrows here at the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Express that Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin could well be on the verge of a move to Arsenal.
The player is well known to us here in the tavern after penning a new deal with the Saints last Febuary but it is surprising to hear his name linked with one of the Premier League’s elite.
Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for the player who is valued at around £10 million and would come into the side as a replacement for the injury prone Abou Diaby.
As Arsenal fans will know, their manager has a talent for luring Southampton players to the Emirates Stadium with the transfers of Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already in the bag. Now the 23-year-old is the latest star to find himself on the Gunners radar and would by all accounts be more than open to a move in the summer.
After eight seasons without any kind of trophy, Wenger is willing to finally spend big and revamp his side and out will go the players who are deemed too injury prone or just not good enough to deliver consistently. The club have already been linked with stars such as Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic and as one of our punters quips, it is certainly an interesting time for Arsenal fans.
