Arsenal set price to finalise deal for 34-cap international

The Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern rarely agree on any matters regarding their club, however, this summer there is one deal they are all reluctantly behind.

There is not a Gooner in the bar who isn’t a fan of midfielder Jack Wilshere, however they all feel it is time for the academy graduate to move on this summer while they can still earn a fee for the 25-year-old.

The 34-cap England international, who has a year remaining on his current deal, spent last season on loan with Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth and, despite some impressive performances, it ended in familiar fashion with an injury ruling him out for the final stages.

Having returned to The Emirates without a clear future, reports from Gianluca di Marzio are claiming the fan favourite is up for sale, with one bid from Italian side Sampdoria having already been lodged.

The Gunners have supposedly rejected the £6.2m offer from the Serie A side but have set them a price at £8.8m to finalise the deal.

Our landlord cannot see a way back in for the midfielder, who has scored 12 goals in 160 appearances for his beloved club, with Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin ahead of him in the central roles and Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez both playing behind the striker.

Arsenal fans, we want to hear from you! Do you agree with our punters? Is it high time Wilshere moved on for the better of his career? Let us know…
