There is drama here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed by the Daily Mirror that the number one target of Arsenal this summer is Spanish international Iker Casillas.
The stopper has been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital and Real Madrid after falling out with manager Jose Mourinho and given that Arsene Wenger is looking for a new number one, the Frenchman has eyed the stopper as his next target.
Of course prising Casillas away from the club he loves is no easy task yet should Jose Mourinho continue on at the club in the summer, Casillas and potentially Sergio Ramos will be looking for the exit door and a move to the Premier League could be what they both need. Given Casillas has lost his place in the starting line up, another season on the bench is far from ideal for the keeper ahead of the 2014 World Cup.
Wenger has eyed a host of keepers ranging from fellow national compatriots Victor Valdes to Pepe Reina, yet in an ideal world would love to land the Real Madrid man with his experience and pedigree when it comes to winning trophies and inspiring a team to victory.
