talkSPORT have shocked our regulars here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim Barcelona are keen on Mesut Ozil.
In the least surprising news since Jose Mourinho was handed an FA charge, Barcelona’s transfer ban has been suspended for the summer, allowing them to target players in order to further build their squad.
Arsenal fans are rather annoyed that this has happened given it is Ozil who the Catalan giants are reportedly targeting, and a £30 million bid is being prepared.
Gerardo Martino’s side already boast Andres Iniesta and Xavi, not to mention the likes of Cesc Fabregas, but with the latter set to be sold this summer and the former two not exactly spring chickens anymore, a move is on the cards.
Barcelona are desperate to reignite a side who are heading towards winning nothing this season, and are spending big to do so. Not to mention they may be forced out of the two transfer markets afterwards.
Arsenal meanwhile will try with gusto to hold onto Ozil, who despite having a tough start to life in England this season has been hailed by his team-mates and indeed Arsene Wenger as the person who will be player of the season next term.
This is not to mention the fact that he is tied to a long-term deal and that Arsenal paid far more than £30 million for him.
As our landlord notes, Barcelona may be about to learn that other clubs are not as easy to negotiate with as football’s governing bodies are.
Is there quite simply no way that Arsenal will part with Mesut Ozil this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
