Arsenal set to enter talks to sign 29-year-old defender from Bayern Munich, Wenger desperate to bolster defensive ranks

benatia.jpgPremier League outfit Arsenal are set to continue their summer spending spree by signing Bayern Munich central defender Medhi Benatia, according to Foot Mercato via the Daily Star.

Arsenal are set to officially announce the signing of midfielder Granit Xhaka this week and it is highly likely that several players will join him at the Emirates Stadium this summer.

According to Get French Football News, the Moroccan performer’s representatives have already entered talks with the Gunners over a switch, which would bolster the club’s defensive ranks considerably.

The Arsenal contingency here in the Transfer Tavern were appalled by some of their team’s defensive displays last season and they are hopeful of some new enforcements to put pressure on the team’s current defenders.

The 29-year-old has played just 29 times for Bayern Munich in his two years with the Bavarian giants and looks certain to move on this summer, with the Gunners here in the Tavern hopeful of his arrival.

One of the die-hard Arsenal fans is enjoying a cheeky brandy and he thinks that Benatia would boost Arsenal’s squad considerably, stating that his signing would represent an improvement on the current crop.
