The Metro report some news that has Arsenal fans looking more than a little bit downcast today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Bernard looks to be heading elsewhere.
Arsene Wenger had been tracking the player who many though was one of the best young talents in world football at the minute and now it seems that as with everything else this summer, Wenger has missed out yet again. After considering raising an initial bid of around £20 million, Wenger has taken too long and now it seems that Shakhtar Donetsk are going to net Bernard after agreeing a £22 million bid with the player’s club Atletico Minero.
As one of our punters quips, just how long is it going to take before Arsene Wenger realises that he cannot keep stalling on bids for top talent – given that he has already seen the likes of Stevan Jovetic and Gonzalo Higuain slip through the net and moves for other top targets such as Julio Cesar not materialising. Not only this but the chase for Luis Suarez seems to be going nowhere and just earlier we were discussing the fact that the player has backed down over the £40 million plus £1 bid thought to have activated a clause in his contract to allow him to speak with the Gunners.
