The rivalry between the Man Utd and Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern has dissipated somewhat over the last few years…
What was once a historic rivalry built upon trophies and success has since reduced to just a clash of two decent sides, with neither Arsenal or Man Utd offering much of a title challenge over the last few years.
Arsenal, led by Arsene Wenger, have been in somewhat of a transitional period for years now – whilst Man Utd have yet to really recover from the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson a few seasons ago.
This year appears to be bringing with it a certain level of change, though, with Arsenal currently competing at the top of the Premier League table and Jose Mourinho spearheading a remarkable turnaround despite a poor start to the campaign. Neither side are quite there yet, but the signs are certainly good – and that isn’t the only evidence that would suggest that this historic rivalry could be about to regain some significance.
Whilst both sides have struggled to obtain Europe’s best over the last few years, instead focusing on more of a squad-based rebuild, it would appear as though both clubs are shooting for the stars next summer – with a huge battle for one of Europe’s hottest talents possibly on the cards.
A deal for a player of Griezmann’s quality would certainly signal that a shift in the balance of power is forthcoming in the Premier League, with any deal for the Frenchman likely to come close to the record-breaking fee that Man Utd paid for Paul Pogba last summer.
The Man Utd and Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t had much to shout about over the last few years, but our landlord thinks that a move from either side for Greizmann could lead to quite the change in fortunes for either side.
