Shkodran Mustafi could be set to leave Arsenal before the end of the European transfer window.
The German defender has fallen out of favour at the Emirates under Unai Emery, and Mustafi’s father and agent Kujtim has provided news which indicates a move is edging ever closer for his son.
“Shkodran had a great time with Arsenal. We still have a contract for two years and can imagine to stay in London,” he is quoted as saying in a report from the Mirror.
“However the best for both sides is probably to work on a transfer. But for that it also needs market-driven transfer-fees.”
Mustafi played 35 times in the Premier League last season for the Gunners but was only part of six clean sheets as they fought it out for a place in the top four, although at the attacking end of the field Mustafi did contribute two goals to the cause despite his defensive frailties.
Mustafi committed 11 more fouls last season for the Gunners than he did in his last campaign with Valencia, a stat which could suggest he has struggled to contain Premier League strikers as well.
Mustafi has been a massive disappointment for Arsenal given the amount he cost them a few seasons ago.
And the stats mentioned above suggest he has arguably struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.
A move is best all around here with Unai Emery even admitting he would be better off finding a new club if he can.
