Arsenal should look to sign 28-year-old French midfielder during summer squad revamp

The Arsenal supporters here in the Football Transfer Tavern experienced a rare moment of excitement last weekend after they watched their side comfortably brush aside Manchester United in a 2-0 win at the Emirates Stadium.

It offered the Gunners a slim possibility of sneaking into the top four of the Barclays Premier League, although they will still be relying on other teams stumbling if they are to make the Champions League next season.

A couple of our regular drinkers in the Tavern are devoted Arsenal supporters and they are discussing where the squad needs strengthening during the summer months, with both of the Gunners fans in agreement that some steel in the middle of the park is an absolute must if they are to progress during 2017/18.

One player who could be a shrewd signing for the Gunners to consider in the summer is Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons who has excelled this season in the French top flight.

The 28-year-old fits the billing for Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger due to his age and his arrival at the Emirates Stadium would see the club fill a void that has been so evident in recent seasons.

The player’s ability to play in either midfielder or at the heart of the back four also makes him a versatile performer which could be a big attribute for the club next season.

Our landlord is intrigued by this decision and he thinks that the Frenchman could be an important signing for the Gunners should they choose to make the deal happen during the summer.

Arsenal fans, what do you know about Gonalons? Let us know in the comments below!!!
