Spurs got rocked in midweek with a 3-2 upset home defeat to West Ham to bring them firmly back down to earth with a bump following two excellent performances against both Real Madrid and Liverpool in succession.
The Londoners are going some way already though to usurping their local rivals Arsenal, who themselves are beginning to get things together and snuck into the quarterfinals of the League Cup thanks to some more exciting youngsters given the chance by Arsene Wenger.
Our landlord here in the Tavern thinks that both clubs look well set for an assault on the top four, but he thinks we could see a move between the two clubs for one player in particular. That player? Spurs and France midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
The powerful midfielder was an expensive signing for Spurs when he joined from Newcastle, but despite scoring in midweek, has so far looked short of the ability needed to fit in with the excellent style of play his teammates demonstrate.
However, he does have ability and drive when played centrally, and oddly, could be exactly the sort of player Arsenal have been missing. The Gunners are still longing for top quality central midfielders, and not since the days of Vieira and Petit have we seen them dominate in the middle of the park.
While Sissoko might not be at those two players’ level, he does bring something different to the Gunners. With all their attacking riches and subtle one touch football, Sissoko could be the ideal sort of signing for Arsene Wenger to give his midfield a much needed boost and different option.
Spurs and Gunners fans, what do you think? Could this happen? Let us know in the comments!
